Default How about an expansion with player crafting?

This is an ongoing idea that I've had and it needs some refining, but here goes the just of it. Basically I'd like to see some form of player crafting enter the game. IMO it's a better way of getting items into the economy than drops because it would add more of a player-dependant element into the economy and takes out randomness.

So here are some of the things that would be involved:

Craft Hall
This would be a character-unique instance sort of like the Sunspear Sancturary or the HoM. You'd get to it during the normal course of your travels and then via quests, you could upgrade it some how. Possible upgrades would be a xunlai agent, mat trader, rare mat trader, etc. This is also the only place in the game you could do all your crafting.

Crafting Skills
IMO crafting should be a title track like norn or asura faction. The higher the rank you get, the more things (and better things) you can craft. By crafting things, your rank improves. This would also work as a great money-sink since a number of people would by all those mats. Anyways, being unranked you'd be able to make one basic weapon or offhand of each type (short sword for instance) that is inscribable. At the first rank you'd gain access a few more of the common skins , which of course you'd get after you do some quests... maybe craft 20 weapons for the weaponsmith guild. By the time you max your rank, you'd be able to craft a lot of the weapons and off-hands in the game but not everything (to preserve farm-value of some items). Maybe 50% or so of the available skins. The highest-ranked weapons you could craft might also come with a small skill point cost to preserve the rarity for some skins. For example if a Broadsword is craftable, it'd cost 1-5 skill points in addition to the mats.

I'd also like to suggest that a few campaign specific skins be added as a bonus to people who own those GW games.

Weapon mod and inscription skills
These would be reserved for maxed title PCs and should probably cost a skill point to make in addition to other costs, but basically would allow people to make any mod or inscription they want to on demand, but at a hefty enough price to the maker to keep him from flooding the market.

Armor Crafting Skills
I also think there should be some form of armor crafting skills, but with a unique twist to make sure people keep sinking their money into armor types. That twist is that you can get a skill to craft a peice of armor for each peice of that armor you have which is customized for you and that any armor you craft is automatically customized to the PC you crafted it with. Note that this is on a per peice basis and not a set, so if you have some 15K set's gauntlets, you'd only be able to make those guantlets again. After that point, you can remake any of your armors for free and save some room in storage.

Mostly this is for reducing the need for armor storage for characters. Another thing that could be done with this idea is that all the new armor sets in the crafting expansion could only be aquired if you've gotten your crafting title to a certain rank, at which point you buy the skills for the armor you'd like to make at 15K a peice.

There could also be a dye-master who for 50gp per peice would let you use an interface like the cape maker to give your armor any color you can come up with. Note to keep dyes valuable, it'd only work on items customized for you and in order to initially get his services, you'd have to provide him with an ample supply of dyes of every color.

Customized shields
This is something that has been requested for a while, but perhaps there could be skills for customized shields where you are able to make a blank shield (or a shield that acts as a caster offhand) and then take it to the dye-master to customize it with whatever insignia and color scheme you want. It could even reuse all the ones for capes to keep things easy on the developers.

So there it is. Any suggestions for improvement?

I like the idea and I would go along with it, but as you have mentioned they would have to be very carefull about crashing the markets of the items that you create. I also like the skill point idea but the problem with that is people have so many, I have an Rt and have collected something like 182 skill points and only spent 112 so I have lots left and while I am playing I collect more so spending skill points is no problem for me and most other players that have played characters for some time.

However I do like the idea, Anet will just need to be very carefull about costs and the such if they included it in GW2
